    First release of Inkwell, a fast, native markdown editor with live preview, built in Rust with GPUI.

    Downloads

    • macOS (Apple Silicon + Intel): Inkwell-0.1.0-macos-universal.dmg. Open it and drag Inkwell to Applications. The app is ad-hoc signed but not notarized, so the first time, right-click the app → Open.
    • Linux (x86_64): inkwell-0.1.0-linux-x86_64.tar.gz has the binary, a .desktop entry and an icon. It's built on Arch and needs glibc 2.44+. On older distros, build from source with ./scripts/install.sh.

    Highlights

    • Live preview: headings, emphasis, links, task lists, quotes, tables, images and syntax-highlighted code render inline; the line under the cursor shows its raw markdown.
    • Autosave, live reload when other programs change the file, and a sidebar of the markdown files in the surrounding repo or vault.
    • Frosted-glass window on macOS and KDE Plasma (Wayland).
    • On macOS: native traffic lights, a menu bar, ⌘ shortcuts, and opening .md files straight from Finder.
